a no brainer

I've taken this on a few long rides and it's unquestionably reliable, smooth as almond butter, and aesthetically pleasing more than any bike on my route. This bike makes riding more than 10 miles effortless and fun -- it's also light enough for me to carry up stairs with no regret of taking it out again.
Overall this company is doing great things and provides wonderful service -- I'm grateful to have my dream bike so accessible and support a small business.

Amara - thanks so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad you're enjoying your Bedford 3. -Ryan Zagata

300+ miles in 1.5 months

I live about 8.5 miles away from where I work. In an effort to cut living costs, I decided to sell my car and commute via bicycle.

I didn't know the least bit about bikes aside from how to ride one, but I knew I needed something low-maintenance, not too expensive, and pretty durable. Style wasn't the highest on the list, but it was still a factor. My first intro to Brooklyn Bicycle was via a Forbes article where the writer test rode one of their bikes and then wrote an article about it. It piqued my interest and a few weeks later I reached out with a few questions. Their customer service was what hooked me. Ryan was incredibly helpful and responsive. In fact, I was so pleased that I convinced my wife that she needed to get a bike from them as well (which she did! The Franklin 7).

In regards to my bike experience, I ride it 4 times a week for work which is about 17 miles round trip. We've also ridden our bikes to the beach and back a few times which is about a 28 mile round trip. It's relatively flat with a few inclines/declines. So far, so good—in regards to what I mentioned above, my Bedford 7 checks off all the boxes I was looking for. We love taking the bikes out and viewing the city from a different perspective.

Definitely not missing the car.

Thank you so much for sharing Shinji. We're thrilled you're enjoying your Bedford and glad your wife is also enjoying her bike. -Ryan Zagata

Love at First Ride

I LOVE MY BIKE! This bike is everything I wanted and more. Looks nice, rides nice, what more could you ask for?! This is my first bike I have bought, and I am a customer for life. I rode for 3 hours my first night, and am eager to get back riding again tomorrow! I could hardly stop riding. It is a head turner for sure. Gears change smoothly, seat is comfortable. I added some of their accessories, including the bell, chain guard, fenders, lights, and water bottle holder. I plan to get the cargo rack and the wooden box soon.

The bike is going to make getting back in shape enjoyable, and not a chore. That is huge for me!

I can’t thank everyone at Brooklyn Bicycle Company enough! Thanks a million.

Thanks for the emphatic love Landen. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and we're thrilled that you're enjoying your Bedford 7. -Ryan Zagata

Wonderful Bike!

I put in many miles the first week I received it and energetically destroyed myself that week because I refused to use my car. The bike is fun to use, rides smoothly, and I trust it. Having confidence in my bike is important riding around Los Angeles and its infamously crowded roads and occasional careless drivers so I'm glad I bought this bike and would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for sharing Eduardo. The Bedford line is a fan favorite so we're glad you are enjoying your experience with the model. -Ryan Zagata

great bike for city cycling

I'm 5'5" female & have really enjoyed using this bike - as the last reviewer noted, it rides very smoothly as a single speed. I don't have to navigate hills in Houston but it rides well on uneven sidewalks & roads throughout the city. Great as a commuter bike or to use for errands. Love the lightweight design and overall style of this bike - would highly recommend.

Thanks so much for sharing Karine. We are glad you are enjoying your Bedford. -Ryan Zagata

WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING IN BROOKLYN?

What Are the Differences Between the Franklin and Willow Step-through Models?

Looking at the Franklin and Willow, but not quite sure how the models compare? No worries – we get this question a lot, so we’ve put together a quick rundown on what sets these models apart!

#TLDR (AKA Too Long Didn't Read)? Here's a Quick Summary:

 SIMILARITIES DIFFERENCES
FRAME GEOMETRY HANDLEBARS
COLOR-MATCHED FENDERS & CHAINGUARD SADDLE
3-SPEED INTERNAL GEARING GRIPS
KICKSTAND INCLUDED TIRE COLOR
REAR CARRIER
CHAIN COATING
7-SPEED GEARING
FRAME MATERIALS

1. HANDLEBARS

This is probably the most notable difference between our step-through models. With the Willow featuring our Swept-Back Handlebars. This means a much more upright (European-style) riding position (think sitting in a chair) that is well suited for leisurely riding.

The Franklin models feature our Relaxed Ride Handlebars, which are slightly more aggressive and ideal for both commuting and leisurely weekend rides.

2. TIRES

The Willow comes with cream tires, whereas the Franklin sports black tires. Do note that regardless of color, all our tires offer an added layer of puncture resistance.

3. ACCESSORIES

The Willow is our premium model and includes a rear carrier, as well as an upgraded sprung saddle and grip set from Selle Royal’s Royalgel™ line.

The Franklin features Selle Royal Vegan Leather saddle and grips. Please note that this bike does not come with a rear carrier. If you would like to purchase a rear carrier for this model, you will need a 26” carrier for the S/M Franklin and a 700C carrier for the Large Franklin model.

Both models come with color matched fenders and chainguard, as well as a kickstand.

4. RUST-PROHIBITIVE COATING & GEARING

As our signature model, the Willow has a few additional premium features including a rust-prohibitive coating on the chain and internal gearing resulting in less maintenance and more riding.

The Franklin 3 model includes internal gearing (just like the Willow), whereas the Franklin 7 has an external 7-Speed derailleur.

5. FRAME MATERIALS

On a more technical note – the geometry on both frames is identical, however the Franklin and Willow models are made from different materials. Are you currently thinking “WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?! I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BIKES!!”? Do not fret – we totally get it! Take a breath and read on…

The Willow frame is made with double-butted 4130 Chromoly Steel. We use a stronger grade of steel, which allows us to use thinner tubing resulting in a lighter frame.

The Franklin frame is crafted with specially engineered high-tensile steel. What does this mean? We are able to offer a similar bike of a more moderate price point. Our Franklin model is the most economical step-through model in our portfolio of bikes (as well as a team favorite)!
