Excellent Service, Looks Great, Appreciate the Accessories

Great customer service made the process of buying online easy and I really liked that they worked with my local bike shop for assembly. The bike itself looks great, I had been wanting something vintage and classic looking and it checked all the boxes. Also I appreciated having a lot of the accessories included like fenders, kick stand, and rack which would have been more expensive and more work to add to a different bike. Lightweight enough I can move around as needed. The S/M size was great for me even though I am short with little legs! Glad I optioned up to get the 3 speed Willow instead of the single speed Franklin.

Thanks for sharing Erica. We are incredibly excited to learn that you're enjoying your Willow 3. We share your sentiment with preferring the 3-speed to the single speed which is why we actually discontinued the Franklin single speed model. Thanks again. -Ryan Zagata

My first bike!

This was my first ever bike purchase, and I'm so happy with it! I love my new bike, and I also loved my experience buying it at the Brooklyn showroom. I'm petite (5'1") so I wanted to try out bikes in person to ensure a good fit, as I'd been having difficulty finding a bike where my feet could reach the ground at all and was worried I'd have to go custom. I was pleased to find the size Small in the Franklin & Willow were both fine for me. When I'd looked online I was leaning toward the Franklin, so it was also useful to try them in person because I found the Willow's wider seat & upright posture to be much more comfortable. It was shipped to a store in my neighborhood and assembled there, and I was able to pick it up within the week with no hassles. I've had the bike for a month now and I've gone on several longer rides through Central Park & Riverside Park (still scared of street biking in NYC!), and it's been a pleasure to ride.

My only complaint is a cosmetic one: I wish it came in more colors! I'm not a fan of bright colors so I bought the black, but I love the army green and ivory some other BBC bikes come in -- it would be nice to have more neutral color options on this model. That's a minor gripe, as the black is practical and it is still a beautiful bike.

Thanks so much for sharing Olivia. We loved welcoming you into our showroom and we're thrilled you're enjoying your Willow 3. We totally hear you on the color options and we are continually looking for ways to offer more options. Thanks again! -Ryan Zagata

Wonderful company

I love my bike and I love the customer service I received from Brooklyn bicycles. My bike is beautiful and I feel like I’m 10 years old again! Carefree and happy zooming around town. How magical to choose my bike online and pick up at my local bike shop. I was the envy of everyone at the shop when I rode out on my shiny new bright red Willow! I recommend Brooklyn to everyone!

Impressive

I was hesitant to purchase a bike online - I mean how can you get the right bike for you without riding it? Enter Brooklyn Bicycle Co and Ryan's exceptional customer service. I corresponded with Ryan via email and then on the phone and all of my questions were answered and my concerns put to rest by the 30-day "happy ride" guarantee. I ordered my bike 5 days ago and just picked it up from my local shop today (super fast! but please note this will also depend on the business of your local bike shop at the time when you order)I have had fit issues in the past with several other bikes but this fits perfectly and is a dream to ride. It's lightweight but sturdy, the seat will need to be broken in a bit and/or I might just need to get used to the wider fit! Don't hesitate to buy a Brooklyn Bike Co bike - you won't regret it. Overall, I'm beyond impressed and would give it six stars if I could - I'm a BBCo customer for life.

Thanks so much Erin. We are so appreciative that you took the time to share your experiences and we're thrill you're enjoying your Willow 3. -Ryan Zagata

Looove this bike!

I had been looking for a dutch style /commuter bike for a long time. Found the BBC and could not be happier! Love love this little sweetheart! Communication with the company was great! A friendly crew who care about your satisfaction and treat you like you're old friends. The process to pick it up at my local bike store fully assembled was seamless. The quality of the bike is excellent. Feels like the way bikes used to be made...to last! It has a smooth and sturdy feel without being heavy or cumbersome. I just glide around town...sometimes take the long way home just to keep riding! :) ...would highly recommend this bike and the company!! Thank you BBC!!!

Thanks for sharing your feedback and for acknowledging your experience with our brand. We're delighted that you're enjoying your Willow 3. -Ryan Zagata

WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING IN BROOKLYN?

What Are the Differences Between the Franklin and Willow Step-through Models?

Looking at the Franklin and Willow, but not quite sure how the models compare? No worries – we get this question a lot, so we’ve put together a quick rundown on what sets these models apart!

#TLDR (AKA Too Long Didn't Read)? Here's a Quick Summary:

 SIMILARITIES DIFFERENCES
FRAME GEOMETRY HANDLEBARS
COLOR-MATCHED FENDERS & CHAINGUARD SADDLE
3-SPEED INTERNAL GEARING GRIPS
KICKSTAND INCLUDED TIRE COLOR
REAR CARRIER
CHAIN COATING
7-SPEED GEARING
FRAME MATERIALS

1. HANDLEBARS

This is probably the most notable difference between our step-through models. With the Willow featuring our Swept-Back Handlebars. This means a much more upright (European-style) riding position (think sitting in a chair) that is well suited for leisurely riding.

The Franklin models feature our Relaxed Ride Handlebars, which are slightly more aggressive and ideal for both commuting and leisurely weekend rides.

2. TIRES

The Willow comes with cream tires, whereas the Franklin sports black tires. Do note that regardless of color, all our tires offer an added layer of puncture resistance.

3. ACCESSORIES

The Willow is our premium model and includes a rear carrier, as well as an upgraded sprung saddle and grip set from Selle Royal’s Royalgel™ line.

The Franklin features Selle Royal Vegan Leather saddle and grips. Please note that this bike does not come with a rear carrier. If you would like to purchase a rear carrier for this model, you will need a 26” carrier for the S/M Franklin and a 700C carrier for the Large Franklin model.

Both models come with color matched fenders and chainguard, as well as a kickstand.

4. RUST-PROHIBITIVE COATING & GEARING

As our signature model, the Willow has a few additional premium features including a rust-prohibitive coating on the chain and internal gearing resulting in less maintenance and more riding.

The Franklin 3 model includes internal gearing (just like the Willow), whereas the Franklin 7 has an external 7-Speed derailleur.

5. FRAME MATERIALS

On a more technical note – the geometry on both frames is identical, however the Franklin and Willow models are made from different materials. Are you currently thinking “WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?! I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BIKES!!”? Do not fret – we totally get it! Take a breath and read on…

The Willow frame is made with double-butted 4130 Chromoly Steel. We use a stronger grade of steel, which allows us to use thinner tubing resulting in a lighter frame.

The Franklin frame is crafted with specially engineered high-tensile steel. What does this mean? We are able to offer a similar bike of a more moderate price point. Our Franklin model is the most economical step-through model in our portfolio of bikes (as well as a team favorite)!

Still have questions on sizing (or anything else)? Email us or schedule a concierge call with our team. We’d love to help!

Don’t forget: All of our bikes include Free Shipping & Professional Assembly.
