We recommend sizing down if you're in between sizes. Have a question on sizing? Check our bicycle sizing guide by clicking here.
The MOST IMPORTANT measurement when sizing a bike is your inseam length.
Don't base your inseam simply on your jean size.
The more precise, the better.
1. Stand with your back against a wall and spread your feet 6-8" apart.
2. Place a book between your legs and up against the wall, spine up; raise it until snug against your crotch (this mimics your bike seat).
3. Have another person measure from the top of the book (spine) down to the floor.
Best Commuter Bikes
"Vegan leather saddle and grips help this bike pair with anything. But its burly 32mm tires can handle city streets and cobblestones."
The Best Bikes for Getting to Work
"The bike itself has a vintage style that we really dig, but it’s all the extra effort Brooklyn Bicycle Co. goes to for customers that permanently raises the bar."
Easy to Buy, Exceptional Service
"By all accounts, buying a Brooklyn online is a pleasant experience."
I absolutely adore my Bedford 3 Speed in green! It understandably took quite some time to get it (placing an order and picking it up at the excellent Silk Road Cycles in Greenpoint) as these bikes are popular, but I am exceedingly glad that I waited. Comfortable, stylish, dependable, well-built and works like a charm. Shifting is simple, hills have been no problem. Really an excellent bicycle and a total pleasure to ride; I've been inspired to ride more and more. Also delighted to buy from a local Brooklyn company and a local Brooklyn bike shop. Highly—repeat highly—recommend!
I rode my Bedford 55 miles on the Putnum trail and matched hybrid bikes for speed. It was super comfortable. The gearing was enough to master the hills. My friend asked me the next day how my backside felt. I felt no discomfort at all from the day before. It's a pleasure to ride and its probably the bike I've loved the most.
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love this bike and this company. I work as a Physician Assistant at a cancer hospital in the UES and started biking to work when the pandemic hit since I was working specifically with COVID patients and didn’t feel comfortable taking public transport for fear of inadvertently spreading it. Initially, I used Citibike, but it’s often difficult to find available bikes nearby after my shift ends. After some research, I reached out to the team at Brooklyn Bicycle to inquire about when they might have a Bedford 7 available - and I am SO GLAD I DID. The team at Brooklyn Bicycle are not only incredibly friendly, they went above and beyond to help me get set up with an incredible ride (which they really had no reason to do, given the likely overwhelming amount of business this pandemic has dropped on their doorstep). They offered to add me to a waitlist for the size and color bike I wanted, they updated me with any information they had regarding the next pre-order and when it looked like one might be available they updated me constantly on its status - and didn’t send me an invoice until it was assembled and they saw for themselves that it was in perfect condition. I picked it up yesterday and had the pleasure of meeting the owner Ryan (who could not have possibly been a more pleasant human) and my ride home was absolutely wonderful! The Bedford 7 rides like a dream - and is about 20lbs lighter than your average citibike. I cannot recommend this bike or this company enough. Thanks Danielle and Ryan!
This is the first bike I’ve purchased in probably 12 years, and it is by far the best bike I’ve ever had. The quality is outstanding, and it rides like a dream. I’ve been wanting a Brooklyn Bike Co. bike for a few years now and it is definitely the best purchase I’ve made in a while. Top notch bike!
I had previously left a review on my bike, but I wanted to add some further detail now that I've had it for a few months and have broken it in. Right off the bat, I can say that this is one of the best purchases I've made. The saddle can be stiff initially, but that's to be expected. Now that it's got some mileage on it, it's pretty soft and comfortable. It handles really well, and the brakes are great. There is very little maintenance that has to be done, just basic stuff like checking tire pressure once in a while. I'll find myself taking a quick ride after work, but having so much fun that I just keep going. It may only be a 3-speed, but to be honest that's more than enough for me. I don't have any huge slopes to deal with out here, and I find myself staying in 3rd for most of the ride anyway. When I do have to change gears, the shifts are just a quick twist of the wrist away. So, in short, this is a great bike and I totally recommend it.
I love everything about the Bedford 3. For starters, it looks great. But more importantly, it rides beautifully. It's strong and sturdy, yet feels quick and nimble. Handles nicely on Brooklyn streets, few of which are smooth. I'm entirely satisfied with the bike and plan to ride it for many years to come. The ordering process was seamless and the customer service exceptional. Five stars on all fronts.
