I'm really happy with my Bedford so far. I use it to commute 3-5 days a week and lots of joyrides on the weekend. I swapped out the handlebars for the VO Tourist and with that it's got a super comfortable geometry that's still efficient enough to log some miles. Bike it light & well built- I liked the order-LBS assembly model as well. And Ryan was super responsive to a string of like 100 questions I threw at him, which made me far more comfortable with buying a bike I'd never seen in person. Great bike, Brooklyn Bicycle Co!
Love this awesome urban city commuter bike. Great quality and a blast to ride. I feel like a kid again!
I love this bike! I bought it on Sunday, it was shipped on Monday, and my local bike shop had it ready for me by Wednesday! Now all I need is the nice weather and I’ll be riding in style. Make sure to look at size chart, I am 5”5 and ordered a small and I am cutting it close with it being a little on the larger size for me. But it rides super smooth, the matte black with brown leather is just gorgeous, and everyone I have shown it off to loves it! It’s my favorite purchase of the season! Thanks for making this process so stress free. We need more companies like yours out there!
I have been looking for a city bike for a while, and it is important to me that my bike be cool as well as functional. I have never bought a bike sight unseen and without test riding it, and that made it a little hard to pull the trigger. I ran into a guy at a local bike shop who was familiar with the Brooklyn Bicycle Co., and he assured me their bikes were excellent. Well, I am so thankful for the time Ryan spend answering my email messages, and for the recommendations of my local bike mechanic. My Bedford 3 is just perfect. It is fast and smooth. Even though my body position is not aggressive as when I am on my road bike, it still feels like I am riding an awesome bike and not just cruising around on a beach cruiser. All of the welds on the frame look like they were done with precision and care -- not one sloppy spot. The 3-speed mechanism runs like velvet, and those are really all the gears I need. I got my new bike with the chainguard and with a rear rack. As you can see from the photos, this bike looks fierce in matte black, and the shiny rack, chainguard, and rims look great too. My friend, Carla, got her Bedford 3 on the same order, only hers is in green. The website doesn't do it justice -- that army green color is just beautiful. And, as you can also see in the photo, Petunia likes my new bike too. In summary, if you are looking for a functional, easy to manage, hip, zippy, smooth, quiet, sturdy, maneuverable and great-looking bike, you should get the Bedford. Thank you Ryan for such a great product. One suggestion, Ryan . . . you should have a dealer in Phoenix. It's a big city that is crazy about bikes all year long. Everyone should see these beautiful machines.
Have been riding quality racing bikes for several years, but after moving to a much bigger city I decided it would be best to get my hands on a commuter that wouldn't crush my soul and bank account if it gets stolen. At the same time, I didn't want to sacrifice quality to the point that I'd be wasting my money.
Ordered a Bedford single on sale. Was contacted after purchase and told that color was only available to Canadian customers, but was offered another color at the same price. Fortunate for me, because the replacement was the color I preferred (but hadn't ordered since the other was on sale). Good communication throughout the process, including follow-up when the bike went out to my LBS. Easy pick-up, good assembly by the LBS (though the tires were curiously underinflated).
The sizing was fine for me. If anything, I just needed to get used to the more upright geometry after many years of racing and riding. Ideal for congested metro commuting. Brakes are spongy in a good way, allowing for a quick stop if needed but without sacrificing control over the bike. Gearing is standard, nice if you've got some moderate inclines on your route or just want to navigate gently through a crowd, not ideal if you're looking for some speed over longer uninterrupted stretches of road/path/trail. Will probably pick up another freewheel as I live in a pretty flat area.
As for looks, it's my last priority, but the immediate compliments I got on it were not unappreciated. It's a nice clean bike. I'm partial to the stem for some reason that I can't quite elaborate on.
All in all, just what I was looking for in a daily city commuter. Am interested in seeing how it holds up over time.
