Formula Femme started in response to the need for more representation of women in track racing. Any woman who has walked into a bike shop knows the immediate sense of intimidation from this male-dominated industry. It doesn’t stop at bike shops: every part of the cycling community has a distinct lack of women. This is changing slowly but surely, and Formula Femme is working hard with other cycling groups to both increase these numbers and inspire women to become a part of racing, bike tours, and the cycling community in general. Whether you’re commuting or hoping to start racing, there are many outlets for women to join in on the fun. New York and other cities are seeing ever-increasing cycling infrastructure, making now a great time for novice riders to try out biking in the city and beyond.
