Caring for your bike between tune-ups

Most of bike care comes down to two habits: keep your tires inflated and your chain clean and lubed. That's 80% of it.

Tire pressure: the range is printed on the tire sidewall. Toward the higher end for pavement speed, a bit lower for comfort on rough streets. Check weekly; tubes lose air naturally.

Tune-up cadence: a quick tune-up once a season (or every 500 miles or so) keeps things quiet: cable tension, brake pads, chain lube. New bikes benefit from a check after the first month as cables stretch, and many of our assembly partners offer a complimentary adjustment within 30 days of pickup. Ask your shop.

Gears skipping? Cables stretch on new bikes, which throws off indexing. It's a two-minute adjustment at any shop.

Brakes squeaking? Usually contamination or pad alignment. Wipe rims (or rotors) with rubbing alcohol and check that pads hit the braking surface squarely. New disc pads quiet down after a dozen firm stops.

We don't operate repair shops, but any reputable local shop can service a Brooklyn bike. No proprietary parts, no special tools. For anything warranty-related, contact us first.
