Durable all around city bike

I've had my Roebling for around six months now. It's been a good experience. The key use for me is for utility rides, but sometimes for athletic rides too. Everything has really checked out with it. Brakes, gears, tires, etc. The layout with the bike tends to support my efficient ride style, where I want the speed I can get from it, where I'm tucked into it, and am able to respond to any traffic problems. I did have one flat early on with it and patched it. For myself, while the tires are good, and are the same size compared to what I sized down to on my Marin hybrid (35C) I'm planning on sizing down to 32C with this for the speed and city streets. I did have an issue with the left rear brake arm locking on me, but when I removed the arm, it was obviously related to too much crud built up or left. Cleaned and lubed and it straightened out for me. The other three haven't done that yet, but now I know the take down for those. The 29 pound weight is reasonable and three lbs. under what the Marin weighs, and five over what my steel State road bike weighs.

Thanks so much for sharing such a thorough review Derek. We're honored to have our Roebling as part of your stable of bikes. The Roebling is a fun do-it-all bike and from the sounds of it, it's delivering as promised. -Ryan Zagata

Great commuter bike

Being a native New Yorker I just had to have a bicycle with the bridge logo…I like this bike a lot. It’s my going to the store bike, although I did ride 22 miles RT last weekend. I’m 67 living in Florida ( still working) and mostly ride an old Bianchi steel frame. For my runs to the pool, grocery store, farm stand, I’ve been using the BB and find myself looking for excuses to ride this nice comfortable bike. The buying process is hassle free and customer service has been top notch. All in all an excellent bicycle

Thanks for taking the time to share your thorough feedback and such amazing photos. -Ryan Zagata

High Quality!

This bike is perfect for riding around town, grocery shopping, errands, joy rides. The fenders are a bit tight so make sure they are installed and adjusted properly. Love it! We now have three Brooklyn bikes. ❤️

Thank you for sharing your feedback and the photos. We're honored to be your bike of choice. -Ryan Zagata

Whizzing through Long Beach

I ordered this bike towards the end of 2020 and was able to start the new year on a high note when I was notified that my bike was ready for pickup. So far the Roebling has been awesome!. I love the sleek matte finish and the overall look of the bike. It has 8 different gears and is a very smooth and comfortable ride, making it perfect for riding around town in Long Beach, CA. Personally I was looking for a solid hybrid/fitness bike and the Roebling checks all of the boxes. I also love the fact that I am able to support smaller businesses, especially in times like these. I can't say enough about the team at BBC. Everyone I emailed or talked to was super friendly, professional, and always willing to go the extra mile to answer any question I had. I also love the fact that they work with local bike shops all across the country. It made the process of picking up my bike quick and easy. All I had to do was show up to my local bike shop, show my receipt and ID, and I was able to ride off on my new set of 2-wheels shortly after. One last thing to note is their great warranty policy. I just found out about this today when I received an email from BBC, and it shows they really care about their customers and their satisfaction. I would recommend these bikes to anyone looking for an affordable, quality ride. I can't wait to put many more miles on my Roebling. Cheers and happy riding!

Thanks so much for sharing such thorough feedback Andrew. It is always a thrill to see our customers enjoying our bikes. -Ryan Zagata

Love the Roebling!

My wife and I had been contemplating buying new bikes for a few years. After some pretty extensive reading and searching, we decided on the Lorimer and Roebling models. I had some anxiety about ordering a bike online and very nearly pulled the trigger on an REI Co-op bike, but I could not be more satisfied with my decision to go with Brooklyn. First the process - it was exactly as advertised. Online chat answered a few questions for me and was very helpful. Once ordered, I had made a mistake in buying components (added a chainguard I didn't need). They e-mailed me over a holiday weekend to check on it, got it corrected for me, and refunded all by the next business day. I also decided last minute to switch the rack I purchased and they made that adjustment for me as well. Notifications when it shipped and told me the bike shop it would be at. Two weeks later I got an e-mail that it was ready. The assembly was nearly flawless (a loose bolt on the rack caused it to slide during first use, but it was easily remedied). As for the bike itself, I love it. Aesthetically, it's awesome. These bikes ooze cool. The logo, the matte paint, the trim, everything is beautiful. It's a ton of fun to ride. Between the customer service and the quality, I don't think you can do any better.

Thanks for sharing Caleb. We are thrilled to have won your business and incredibly appreciative that you took the time to share this review of your new commuter bike. -Ryan Zagata

Great commuter and light touring bike

Needed a bike to get to work and back, this bike was perfect for the Job. Just added racks and panniers for all the stuff I take back and forth. It can also hold a tent, sleeping bag, and gear for my bike touring adventures. I like to travel up and down California's coast camping along the way. The granny gear can go up any hill I have encountered. Not the fastest bike that I have, but I use it as a work horse. You can load it up and it still keeps its speed.

Customer service from Brooklyn was great, and the local bike shop that put it together was also great. No complaints.

Thanks Gerald. We're glad you're putting the Roebling through the paces and it is delivering as promised. -Ryan Zagata

an all-star bike

The Roebling is a great bike for my commute to school and trail riding on the weekends. It's light enough to transport easily but stable enough to handle uneven ground (either trails or rough Michigan roads). I paired mine with the Brooklyn Bike Co fenders and they get me to school mud-free on the rainy days. Customer service was great and helped me choose the right model and frame size for my needs. Would recommend for an all around great bike!

Thanks for sharing Allison. The versatility you reference is one of the reasons we suggest that the Roebling remains our top selling model. -Ryan Zagata

Surprise Gift

I got this bike for my boyfriend as a birthday gift after his previous bike was stolen from our backyard. I still cannot believe how easy this surprise was to pull off. The bike was sent to a local shop only a mile away from my house and I was able to easily pick it up and bring it home. He was indeed surprised and says he absolutely loves his new Roebling. Thank you so much Brooklyn Bicycle for your exceptional customer service!

Thanks so much for sharing Kendall. We are thrilled he's loving his bike. -Ryan Zagata

Made the right choice

After searching in person for an affordable bike that offered a sturdy yet light frame coupled with a simplistic modern look over several months I had given up...until I randomly came across Brooklyn Bicycle. While the "fixie" is what caught my eye, I went with the Roebling as I wanted gears for different terrains. Ordering a bike online made me nervous, but the process went much better than I expected. There was ample info provided on each bike to make an informed decision and Brooklyn added many personal touches including hand written post cards and a direct message from Ryan (CEO). Overall, it was a two week process from order to pick up. The sleek, simplistic, modern design with a matte black finish is exactly what I wanted. The local company Brooklyn partnered with did a great change building the bike and pick up was a breeze. I love how the frame handles on the road and the light weight allows me to keep it in my apt or take on trains with ease. I just finished my first month with the bike and look forward to riding more in 2019.

We are glad you're enjoying your Roebling Nathan and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. It's one of our most popular models and it seems you're experiencing why it has been so popular. Thanks for sharing. -Ryan Zagata

This is what buying a bike online should feel like. (Bonus: The bike is awesome!)

I couldn't be happier with my experience buying from BBC. The owner, Ryan, hopped on a call with me to answer all my questions and calm my fears. The site is so clean and well laid out and the buying experience was nearly perfect. I wish all companies would take this much pride in their customer service.

PS. The Roebling is perfect for what I wanted. Its well built, rides so smooth and is an all around great bike. I definitely recommend going w/ this bike and this company. 10/10 !

Thanks so much for sharing Lou. We always enjoy experiencing our customer's enthusiasm when hunting for a new bike so we are glad you are enjoying your bike. -Ryan Zagata

This bike will be going on alot of adventures!

I had been looking for a new lightweight hybrid to replace an older heavier bike and after much research decided on the Roebling. Ordering was easy, I didn't really have any questions because the information on the website gave me all the details I needed. Picking it up from my local bike shop was convenient and I was thrilled to ride it home from there. I have ridden it the 22 mile round trip commute to work a couple of times and it handles like a charm...fast and comfortable like my road bike, but with a more casual vibe. The sleek look is what originally caught my eye, I love the "raw" material, it looks vintage and stylish, especially with the addition of a Brooks saddle. Also added a rack using the handy eyelets so I can commute, shop, tour and run errands on this little beauty. I am so happy with this bike and glad I live in Florida so I can ride it all year long! Thanks Brooklyn Bikes for the great service and bike!

Thanks for sharing Kendra. LOVE the addition of the Brooks Saddle. -Ryan Zagata

Fantastic Bike, Fantastic buying experience

I bought a Roebling for myself and a Lorimer for my wife and we're absolutely in love. These bikes are exactly what we need to zip around Kansas City, MO. From the frame construction and high-quality parts to the expert assembly and no-hassle pick up, these bikes are completely perfect and a fun way to bring Brooklyn to KC. I've already put 250+ miles on my bike in just over a month and haven't had a single issue at all. Thanks for such a great experience!

Luke - thanks so much for taking a moment to share this. We're thrilled that you are both enjoying your hybrid bikes! -Ryan Zagata

Excellent Bike - Light and Easy/Smooth Ride.

I live in DC and the bike community here is very visible and known. I purchased the Roebling bike because I wanted a bike that was both light to carry and easy/smooth to commute on (to and from work and as well as for pleasure). I live in a sort of hilly area close to downtown DC (and most of the district is practically hilly) and when I got and rode the Roebling, it made my commute a hundred times better! And when I carry the Roebling inside my home and office, it's actually pretty light. Customer service at Brooklyn Bicycle Co. are not just friendly, but they are also very personable, knowledgable and honest (Which made my shopping experience with Brooklyn Bicycle Co. sort of special and made me really happy, confident, and prideful of my purchase. Thanks a bunch to Rachel and Ryan!) Also forgot to mention, Brooklyn Bicycle Co. actually gives you the option of picking up your bike at a local bike shop/dealer near where you live (Which is what I chose and the bike shop builds your bike for your for free!) I would definitely recommend this bike and would not hesitate to contact Brooklyn Bicycle Co. if you have any questions. Thanks for making me feel like I have a part of Brooklyn, NY in DC!

Alvin - thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and specifically call out members of our team. We are quite fortunate to have such great team members working to help our customers get on the right bike. Lastly, we're thrilled you're loving your Roebling, it's a true office favorite commuter bike! -Ryan Zagata

Exactly what I was looking for.

My favorite things about the Roebling:

1) It's lightweight. I was tired of lugging my old comfort bike up and down apartment stairs. It's much speedier too, and makes the sometimes hilly terrain in Ann Arbor not seem so daunting!

2) Looks sharp, but not flashy. I love the matte black finish, and how the company name isn't splashed across it in huge colorful lettering like most other bikes. Also, I like the look of the skinny down tube - it's the same thickness as the rest of the frame. Most other hybrid bike brands seem to have a down tube that's twice as thick as the rest of the bike frame (maybe because they aren't chromoly steel).

3) Seems durable. I've had the bike for almost 2 months now and ridden it around town and to work quite a bit. So far no signs of anything super questionable. I've run over glass accidentally a couple times, but the tires are still fine. The only negative thing I've noticed is that the seat tends to gradually slide down (as the previous reviewer mentioned), even though I have the quick-release pretty tight. I end up re-adjusting it every 2 or 3 rides, but it'd probably be fine if i sucked it up and made it a little tighter.

4) It's easily accessorizable. I've added a headlight, bell, tail light, water bottle holder, mini pump, and top-bar frame bag so far, and will probably add a rear rack eventually. I also added a rear-view mirror, which gets inserted into the end of the handlebar after you pop off the end cap of the grip - the plastic part of the mirror that inserts was too thick at first though, I actually had to file it down to make it fit inside the handlebar tube.

I test rode 4 or 5 other bikes at REI before finding the Roebling at Wheelhouse Detroit. The simplicity of the Roebling compared to the other hybrids I tried is what won me over. No fancy shocks and hydraulic disc brakes on the Roebling, but probably no expensive repairs later on either.

Chad - thank you for such a thorough review. We've addressed the Quick Release seat clamp situation that some riders have experienced - simply switch to a non-quick release clamp and you're good to go - it has the added benefit of providing an extra layer of security against saddle theft. -Ryan Zagata

Perfect city bike

Great bike and smooth ride! Love how light it is as well I have to carry my bike up and down a flight of stairs so it’s nice that it isn’t a pain. Even though it’s light it does not feel fragile at all! Also a huge fan of the free assembly was able to walk to the bike shop and ride home

Thanks so much Kyle. Thrilled to have you in the Brooklyn Bicycle Co. family and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with the brand and your Roebling commuter bike. - Ryan Zagata

Have Questions?
We Have Answers.

Get quick answers to your most common questions from sizing to accessorizing.

What is a hybrid bike?

Hybrid bicycles blend characteristics from more specialized road bikes, touring bikes and mountain bikes. The resulting "hybrid" is a general-purpose bike that can tolerate a wide range of riding conditions and applications.

What is the difference between the Roebling and the Lorimer?

While similar in design to its sibling the Lorimer, the Roebling sets itself apart with a longer cockpit and sportier, more contoured saddle. It also sports less swept back handlebars than the Lorimer. The Roebling is ideal for a wide range of rider heights from 5'0" - 6'4".

What is chromoly steel?

Chromoly (short for chromium-molybdenum) is a premium, lighter grade of steel prized by cyclists. It retains steel's legendary durability and shock absorption while shedding unnecessary weight—giving you a smoother, lighter, and more responsive ride. Specifically, the Roebling's chromoly is double butted which means the tubing is thicker at the stress points (welds) and then tapers at the center of the tubes resulting in an even lighter bike.

Can I add fenders, a rack, etc. to my Roebling?

Absolutely! The Roebling has all the braze-ons (mounting points) you'd need to add things like fenders, a rear rack, a kickstand, a front basket, or a water bottle cage.
