Roebling

One of our most versatile commuter bikes, the Roebling features a wide gearing range and puncture-resistant tires for all-day and all-terrain riding, but don’t let this sleek hybrid bike fool you: It’s just as ideal for commuting and running errands as it is for working up a sweat on city streets or bike paths. The ultra-lightweight, double-butted chromoly steel frame delivers a light and smooth ride everywhere life takes you. While similar in design to its sibling the Lorimer, the Roebling sets itself apart with a longer cockpit and sportier, more contoured saddle.

Understated but amazing; exactly what i needed

After searching for bikes on various bike stores and well-known brand sites, came across Brooklyn bikes on the web. Of all the options i were considering till then, Roebling ticked almost all the boxes. High quality and light-weight frame, trustable gear system, understated looks that does not scream its presence. There were a few features that i wish it had: Disk Brakes (Hydraulic), Dynamo and a carbon belt drive. But realized that at the price-point it was being offered, the choice of components were more than good and decided to proceed with the purchase.
Right from the time of initial engagement, the staff at Brooklyn provided great support. Their levels of engagement and passion towards their products is really commendable (including Ryan, who went out of his way in helping me decide the build i need) . The purchase process was smooth and took delivery of my bike about 10 days after purchase. The local bike shop that received the bike did a very good job of setting up the bike and tuning it to suite my profile.
Since then, i have driven this bike for close to 100 miles in nearly a month and as others have stated the ride is smooth and the gear shifts precise, I have ridden other bikes before and this is the one that felt the most comfortable; be it the handle grips or the seat post.
The only problem that i have faced so far is that the tires have a tendency to destabilize if am attempting to make a sharp turn, even at low speeds. Am not sure whether it is because of the tread design causing loss of grip near the side-wall boundaries or just that am a bad rider :)
Am looking forward to the miles that am going to cross with my Roebling.

Thank you so much for sharing Chandramouli. We are thrilled that you are enjoying your Roebling and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with others. -Ryan Zagata

Made the right choice

After searching in person for an affordable bike that offered a sturdy yet light frame coupled with a simplistic modern look over several months I had given up...until I randomly came across Brooklyn Bicycle. While the "fixie" is what caught my eye, I went with the Roebling as I wanted gears for different terrains. Ordering a bike online made me nervous, but the process went much better than I expected. There was ample info provided on each bike to make an informed decision and Brooklyn added many personal touches including hand written post cards and a direct message from Ryan (CEO). Overall, it was a two week process from order to pick up. The sleek, simplistic, modern design with a matte black finish is exactly what I wanted. The local company Brooklyn partnered with did a great change building the bike and pick up was a breeze. I love how the frame handles on the road and the light weight allows me to keep it in my apt or take on trains with ease. I just finished my first month with the bike and look forward to riding more in 2019.

We are glad you're enjoying your Roebling Nathan and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. It's one of our most popular models and it seems you're experiencing why it has been so popular. Thanks for sharing. -Ryan Zagata

This is what buying a bike online should feel like. (Bonus: The bike is awesome!)

I couldn't be happier with my experience buying from BBC. The owner, Ryan, hopped on a call with me to answer all my questions and calm my fears. The site is so clean and well laid out and the buying experience was nearly perfect. I wish all companies would take this much pride in their customer service.

PS. The Roebling is perfect for what I wanted. Its well built, rides so smooth and is an all around great bike. I definitely recommend going w/ this bike and this company. 10/10 !

Thanks so much for sharing Lou. We always enjoy experiencing our customer's enthusiasm when hunting for a new bike so we are glad you are enjoying your bike. -Ryan Zagata

Great Bike. Great Customer Service.

Couldn't be more happy with the entire process and the bike itself is great, too. The customer service from beginning to end was really impressive. The bike is everything I was hoping for in a cross-functional capacity.

Thanks Reuben - so glad you're enjoying your Roebling. It has been an incredibly popular and well received model for us. -Ryan Zagata

Freedom in the city!

I love this bike. It is my main form of transportation in Seattle, Washington. This the first bike I have bought for myself and I was worried because I did not have the chance to see it before purchase, but I had ridden a Brooklyn before and love the ride. And the payoff has been huge. It is the smoothest ride, climbs those hills with ease, and allows me to travel around the city easily and fast! Thanks Brooklyn.

Hey Patrick - thanks so much for taking the time to share your feedback. The Roebling is my personal favorite model for its versatility and it sounds like you are experiencing the same. Thanks again. -Ryan Zagata

WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING IN BROOKLYN?

What Are the Differences Between the Franklin and Willow Step-through Models?

Looking at the Franklin and Willow, but not quite sure how the models compare? No worries – we get this question a lot, so we’ve put together a quick rundown on what sets these models apart!

#TLDR (AKA Too Long Didn't Read)? Here's a Quick Summary:

 SIMILARITIES DIFFERENCES
FRAME GEOMETRY HANDLEBARS
COLOR-MATCHED FENDERS & CHAINGUARD SADDLE
3-SPEED INTERNAL GEARING GRIPS
KICKSTAND INCLUDED TIRE COLOR
REAR CARRIER
CHAIN COATING
7-SPEED GEARING
FRAME MATERIALS

1. HANDLEBARS

This is probably the most notable difference between our step-through models. With the Willow featuring our Swept-Back Handlebars. This means a much more upright (European-style) riding position (think sitting in a chair) that is well suited for leisurely riding.

The Franklin models feature our Relaxed Ride Handlebars, which are slightly more aggressive and ideal for both commuting and leisurely weekend rides.

2. TIRES

The Willow comes with cream tires, whereas the Franklin sports black tires. Do note that regardless of color, all our tires offer an added layer of puncture resistance.

3. ACCESSORIES

The Willow is our premium model and includes a rear carrier, as well as an upgraded sprung saddle and grip set from Selle Royal’s Royalgel™ line.

The Franklin features Selle Royal Vegan Leather saddle and grips. Please note that this bike does not come with a rear carrier. If you would like to purchase a rear carrier for this model, you will need a 26” carrier for the S/M Franklin and a 700C carrier for the Large Franklin model.

Both models come with color matched fenders and chainguard, as well as a kickstand.

4. RUST-PROHIBITIVE COATING & GEARING

As our signature model, the Willow has a few additional premium features including a rust-prohibitive coating on the chain and internal gearing resulting in less maintenance and more riding.

The Franklin 3 model includes internal gearing (just like the Willow), whereas the Franklin 7 has an external 7-Speed derailleur.

5. FRAME MATERIALS

On a more technical note – the geometry on both frames is identical, however the Franklin and Willow models are made from different materials. Are you currently thinking “WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?! I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BIKES!!”? Do not fret – we totally get it! Take a breath and read on…

The Willow frame is made with double-butted 4130 Chromoly Steel. We use a stronger grade of steel, which allows us to use thinner tubing resulting in a lighter frame.

The Franklin frame is crafted with specially engineered high-tensile steel. What does this mean? We are able to offer a similar bike of a more moderate price point. Our Franklin model is the most economical step-through model in our portfolio of bikes (as well as a team favorite)!
