Warehouse Deal: Driggs 8

I bought the Driggs 8i Disc three months ago for commuting and running errands in hilly Omaha, Nebraska. It's a joy to ride. Brooklyn Bicycle shipped it to my regular bike shop for assembly. The Driggs is designed for comfortable transportation in an upright riding position, hill-climbing, easy maintenance, and accessorizing. You can see in the picture that I've had a ball accessorizing mine to the max!

I got my Driggs Three in early December and a month later the winter weather gave way to warm almost spring like conditions and I have been riding my new bike almost every day . This bike is everything I wanted it to be . It’s comfortable and it rides like a dream . The thing I like most is its looks ! This bike does not have a garish or gaudy paint job . The matte black and a simple Brooklyn Bicycle Company decal on the top tube is all there is and a real , honest to goodness , head tube badge . Simple elegance . Maybe it’s just me but that head tube badge tells me that Brooklyn is proud of their bikes and they should be . The wheel set , brakes , crankset and Shimano Nexus three speed hub are all top quality . The fenders are steel and the fender stays are not flimsy . This is not a bike that will fall apart or rattle to pieces after a short time . I am very impressed with the durable quality of the Driggs 3 . If you want a Driggs 3 then get it . You won’t be disappointed .

I absolutely love this bike. I ordered it a month ago. The shifting is simple and easy, the style looks amazing. The ride is smooth and handles great. The bike is light weight for its size yet very sturdy. I get a lot of compliments when I’m out riding.

I have a short commute and always feel guilty driving. I had an ebike but it got stolen, so I used the insurance money to buy one of these Driggs. Let me tell you, that was a good choice! It's easy to pedal and looks super suave. I love it! It's got that ineffable "cool" factor of the Dutch bikes, and I can carry everything I need. I'm adding a front rack in the near future but otherwise this has been everything I wanted.

This bike was exactly what I was looking for , a simple vintage styled bike. It rides well, the shipping process was smooth, couldn’t be happier. I added a brass bell and some canvas saddlebags, get compliments all the time on it.

Love my new bike. The ride is wonderful, smooth and fast. Light weight. Gears work great, shifting is easy. The bicycle is a real head turner as well.

I first fell in love with traveling by bike while living in Holland. Upon returning to the States, I bought the bike I could afford (a Walmart special Schwin) and rode the hell out of it on our crappy, potholed, overcrowded Southern California streets. I loved every minute of it. We moved to an even less bike friendly city, had a baby, and at some point sold the bike that had been so good to me.

My kid is older now, and we’ve moved back to SoCal, so I began my search for a new bike. My goal was to find a bike that I could use for everything: a relaxing leisurely ride on a weekend, a trip to the store, taking my kid to the park or school, visiting friends, etc. I’ve been heavily influenced by both Eben Weiss and Grant Petersen, especially the idea of the “unracer” approach to cycling, and using the bike as my go-to method of travel. I also wanted something that felt close to the opafiets, the Dutch bike, that first sparked my love of cycling.

I’m sure that if you’re reading this review you are thinking similar thoughts. You’re not checking out a road bike to rack up KOMs. You’re not looking up the grams of every component listed here. You’re not spec’ing a new carbon seat post. You want a durable bike that looks amazing and will be as functional as it is stylish.

Listen to me: this is the one you’re looking for.

Every piece of this bike is smooth, strong, and beautiful. Ryan and his team obviously took their time finding perfect, well built components.

Just as importantly, it’s stylish. Head-turning, “where’d-ya-get-that?”, jealous looks style. Unlike every other bike you pass, this bike is unmistakable. I love the 2nd top tube. Does it add some weight? Yeah, probably, but it’s not much heavier than similar steel bikes. And I gotta believe that the stronger geometry means this bike is going to last longer.

I love the internal hub too! Biking in an urban environment necessitates a lot of stopping at lights and being able to shift up or down at a full stop is a lifesaver, especially when I’m loaded down with groceries. I don’t live in an extremely hilly area, but every place I want to go is uphill from me, so I got the 7 speed and have been very happy with the gear ratios.

The rear rack that comes with the bike is steady and strong. I’m planning on putting a front rack on as well at some point, but that’ll come later. It’s nice to have the braze-ons to have the option. I have been able to take fairly heavy loads on the rear rack without any problem at all.

Speaking of heavy loads, I’ve also been taking my kid to the park using a rear trailer that attaches to the rear axle. On my old bike the rear wheel kept slipping and the chain had to be constantly retensioned no matter how tightly I tightened everything down. On the Driggs, I haven’t had any of those problems whatsoever and the geometry makes it a far more comfortable ride, especially uphill. I haven’t had to leave the seat at all, even while hauling my huge kid up the steep grade back to our house.

As for fit, I am 5’9” with a 31” inseam. I am right in between sizes for the medium and the large. The stand over height is perfect; I really wouldn’t want to go any higher. I opted for the “swept back” bars because I wanted that upright riding style. I find them just a tad bit short, though, both on the reach and on the rise. The bars have hardly any rise at all and, personally, I’d like a bit more to it. I’d also like just a bit more reach, like maybe an inch further back. As it is, I’m still hunched over a bit. It not terrible by any means and this is all very much a combination of individual physical measurements and personal preferences.

The same goes for the seat. Everyone’s ass is different and a seat is the most personal part of the bike. For me the seat that it came with is okay but not great. I replaced it with a wider and softer seat after a recommendation from a friend. It doesn’t look nearly as good, but you won’t ride a bike you’re not comfortable on. Ryan says that the included seat is comfortable for most people, and I don’t doubt him. Try it out, see how it fits.

If you’re reading this, especially if you’ve made it this far, you’re probably in the midst of researching bikes. I spent months looking at various bikes, calling companies with nitpicky questions, comparing components and geometries. It became an obsession. The primary contenders to this were from Linus, Public and Priority. I can tell you (in excruciating detail) the technical reasons I went with the Driggs but the single most important reason was this: the personal customer service I received from Brooklyn Bicycles has been absolutely amazing. The care that the entire team takes in the whole process is incredible, with fantastic communication and attention to detail. Thank you Ryan and Danielle especially for putting up with me and helping me so much with my order. You’ve made a customer for life!

Now to start saving for a Wythe....

I love my Diggs 3, It's always a head turner whenever I bike with this. The internal gear makes riding much easier and no need to worries about damage to the gear. The upright seating position helps make frequent commute ride comfortable. I just can't get over how beautiful this bike looks.

I'm lucky enough to have a commute that's well-suited to biking in a town that's...well, that's more generally not that well-suited to biking. When I went shopping, I was really focused on getting something comfortable, and this bike delivers; the riding posture is super easy-going, and the ride is *really* smooth. There actually aren't enough "o's" in the word "smooth" for how smooth it is. It just sails right along. What I didn't expect was that it would also look as good as it does...I hadn't even got it out of the bike shop that the Brooklyn Bicycle Co. sent it to for assembly before somebody remarked how pretty it was (and let me note in passing: the "Buy &Ride" program is brilliant). Had somebody in a work meeting comment on how sharp-looking it is. I posted a picture of it online and got the response "Super clean and dapper!", which seems to cover it pretty well.

So, in a nutshell: I'm not an experienced enough bicyclist to give you a good assessment of the technical details on this thing. But I CAN say that I'm having a blast riding it, that it draws all kinds of good attention, and that when you factor in the convenience of the shopping experience I can't imagine doing any better for the price.

I love my Driggs! I wanted a fun bike that could tackle small hills for neighborhood rides. Couldn’t be happier.

This bike was everything I dreamed of, and then some. The matte black is stunning, and the cognac brown handles are not only aesthetically pleasing, but super comfortable as well.
It is even better in person than it was online.
If you’re even considering it, just do it.

I got my Driggs 3 customized with the "Relaxed Ride Handlebars" (I didn't love the swept-back look), and I'm really happy with how it turned out! The bike looks very stylish and I've been having fun decking it out with accessories: Retro headlamp, leather top tube protector, leather U-Lock holster, clip-on messenger bag, etc. It makes me want to go out riding every day.

The quality seems generally good to me, but I am no expert. The internally-geared hub seems like magic at first. The 3 speeds are plenty for my short commute down the bike path.

I didn't quite understand the size of the bike until I saw it in person. Even the Medium feels quite big! Mostly long - still easy to step over. I dig it. (For reference I'm 5'10".)

The delivery/build experience had a few wrinkles - I think I was the first customer in my area. There were some communication issues with the local bike shop, and not everything was set up & adjusted correctly at first. Not a big deal, everything worked out in the end and I figure it's just part of the price you pay for a cool, unique item from a small business. (Ryan: I would suggest working on a very clear set of instructions/checklist for your local partners so that they know exactly what is expected in the future.)

A few more observations:
- The seat is pretty firm. I've gotten used to it already (after adjusting the position/tilt a bit), but if I were riding longer distances I would consider an upgrade.
- Curbs/potholes feel like a big jolt compared to my last bike, probably because of the thinner tires? For a city/commuter bike, it would be nice if it handled those jolts a bit better.
- I wish there was a color-matched chain guard available, I would have paid extra.

Overall I'm very happy with it. I'm not a serious cyclist, so I prioritized style & overall joy and it's succeeded wildly on that front! I do think there is some room for improvement, both on the customer experience and on the bike itself.

I wanted a smooth and comfortable ride for bopping around town and getting groceries, and I got it. For the money, it would be tough to find a better value out there for a new ride.
The materials used, welding, sealed bearings and geometry are all top notch. The double-butted chromoly steel frame has a good bit of flex also, which makes for a very forgiving ride. I decided to swap out a few components to suit my style and needs, but the stock kit is thoughtfully put together.

Most of all, Ryan and the team at BBC are amazing! It was like talking to friends in person. I felt very good with this purchase from start-to-finish.

I had my eye on this bike since I got back from Copenhagen last fall. I've been wanting to replace my beach cruiser with a more stylish, European/commuter bike but I didn't want to skimp on quality. This bike has it all - great style and extremely well made. I stopped by the showroom when in NYC for a test ride and everything about these bikes are top notch. I've had it for about a month now and absolutely love riding it because it's so comfortable. The 3 speed internal hub on this bike is of much better quality than my experience with other bikes. I love how it puts you a little more upright on while riding for a much more comfortable ride in my opinion. You won't be disappointed with buying this bike. It's totally worth it.

I don't write reviews often but the bike and the company deserve it. I was looking for a new bike that was upright, fairly light, easy to pedal and had vintage styling. I live in the suburbs and have small kids so the bike mainly is used for family time and Saturday morning farmers market runs. The build quality, design and parts are all top notch for a bike in this category and price range. I did my research and it was down to the Lynus and Brooklyn Bicycle. I chose the Driggs. Ryan and Danielle spent a lot of time answering my questions and making sure I was happy. If there was an issue they fixed it. This was the biggest selling point to me and why I'm a repeat customer. Simple, provide a great product and great service.

The bike is great and I enjoy it so much I purchased my wife a Willow 3 (she got jealous of how effortlessly I was pedaling along). Of ccourse I purchased a few accessories to like a helmet, bike lights (I really like the BB set), panniers, chain gaurdframe bike lock, new seat, grips and a bell (ding!). Some of these I purchased directly from BB and if they didn't have it they helped me find it. If you're looking for this type of bike in this price range then you'll find the short list of quality providers. Great bicycle!
