Perfect. Bicycle and Customer Service

I meant to write this a lot sooner. The bicycle is great. I am enjoying riding her around Baton Rouge, though it sometimes feels like an extreme sport. A cyclist, I have come to realise, is somewhat rare in these parts (and more than a little unwanted). Regardless, I persevere because I love cycling and hate cars and I am used to cycling. It was a fair bit safer in Europe, I got knocked off twice here already and this never happened to me before, but I am hoping that more people will take to cycling and then things will get better. Anyway I am not planning on stopping.
The bicycle is very trusty and beautifully designed. She withstood two pickup trucks so far (hopefully there won’t be more, but they have drive through Daiquiris here).
Excellent customer service throughout. Hassle free. Friendly.
Would have wrote this much sooner (got bicycle last June) but my mother died unexpectedly and so I went home to the UK for a while.

Thank you for sharing such a thorough review Violet. We are glad you've emerged unscathed from the daquiri drinking drivers. Thanks also for sharing such a fun photo. -Ryan Zagata

This is our 2nd Willow

I bought a Willow during Covid and liked it so much that we now bought a 2nd one for our daughter. We're lucky to have a mobile bike service that works with Brooklyn and after assembly, they dropped the bike off at our house and made sure seat height and everything is correct. Great service and great bike!

Thank you for sharing your feedback and photo Claudia. We appreciate your repeat business and are glad you're enjoying your bikes. -Ryan Zagata

Great bike

I’ve taken my Willow 3 out a few times on a rail trail and love it! It’s a smooth ride with a comfortable seat. Very happy with this bike.
It’s great getting out with other Brooklyn bike owners.
Here is a picture of our BB’s-Bedford, Franklin and Willow!

Loving it

As someone who hasn't ridden in over 40 years, this bike made for an easy adjustment back into flow of riding. I was nervous at first but thought it best to pull the trigger and let that be my motivation to get back on the horse. The ride is smooth and the seat is comfortable. I'm still learning to turn corners but with practice I'm sure I'll feel more confident. No regrets.

Thanks for sharing Lauren. We're glad you're back out riding. -Ryan Zagata

💕love love our new bikes!!

We waited a year for our new bikes and they were so worth the wait! I have a Willow and my husband has the Driggs 7. The 7 speed is perfect for Florida riding. Danielle was so patient with us throughout the process and kept us updated as we waited for our bikes to be back in stock due to COVID. We love them and would highly recommend them! Love the company and all the accessories we purchased! Thank you ☺️ so much Danielle!!!

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback Cindy. We're thrilled you're enjoying your bikes. -Ryan Zagata

What can I say? Everything in the process of buying a bike online from Brooklyn Bicycle Co. during a pandemic has been amazing and seamless. Their friendly staff answered all my questions over the phone. The bike was personally delivered to my doorstep by Ryan himself, who is such a down to earth, cool guy. He helped make sure the seat was the right height and gave me a few pointers. I’ve had the bike for about a month now and have ridden every day it hasn’t been raining. The gears shift easily and smoothly and I don’t have to worry about too much maintenance because of the internal gearing system. The bike itself is beautiful and feels comfortable even on longer rides along the Westside highway and up that beast of the Harlem Hill in Central Park! I’m lucky that I was able to snag this gem before the shortage hit. My plan is to ride all summer long and then use it to commute to work once that reopens as well. I highly recommend this bike and company. All around a total pleasure!

Thanks for sharing Marisa. We'll keep our eyes peeled for you when we're uptown. -Ryan Zagata

Love my Willow 3!

I bought my Willow 3 bike during the quarantine and it has been so wonderful to get out and about -- from Brooklyn Bridge Park to Prospect Park to picking up dinner from further afield restaurants! The bike looks great, the gears shift smoothly and it maneuvers well, plus the customer service was top notch -- but to me, what this bike really represents is freedom and joy during a tough time.

Thanks so much for sharing Jen. We echo your sentiments that our own bikes have brought us a sense of peace and freedom during this time. -Ryan Zagata

Great Bike!

Got this bike last month and honestly it's so great! I got the beautiful seaglass color! I don't know much about bikes but Ryan was super helpful at making sure I found the right one down to what I should feel the best seat height for me would be. Pickup was super easy! They have a partnership with Silk Roads so it was great to be able to pick up my already assembled bike. 10/10 would recommend this bike to anyone who is just looking for a cute commuter style bike!

Thank you for sharing your feedback and the fun photo Isabella. -Ryan Zagata

Beautiful!

I absolutely LoVE my new bike and so do many others! Every time I ride it, several people say “nice bike”! But aesthetics aside, it is such a comfortable bike and rides very well. The gears shift smoothly and it’s very sturdy, even when my basket is chock full of groceries. I’m very happy with my purchase :)

Thanks so much for sharing Kiley. -Ryan Zagata

Dream bike

The correct number of bikes to have is x + 1! We have a garage full of bikes - all beloved - but I was in the market for one more. I wanted a bike I could use instead of my car around town to grocery shop, get here and there, run errands, possibly even to commute to work. On a trip to Charleston, SC, I spotted a bike that looked exactly like what I wanted - a Tribe bike. I was disappointed to find that Tribe wasn't selling bikes anymore, however, a search for them brought us to you on the Internet - and I could not be happier it happened the way it did. I took over a year to put together a wish list of what I wanted this commuter bike to be and how I would use it. And even when I was sure what I wanted, it took months for me to let my husband pull the trigger on the purchase. A bike is an investment and not to be taken lightly! My Williow 7 does not disappoint. I have been all over my city on it and feel like bike royalty as I ride. I gush about this bike - the look, the solid ride, the gear - it's the whole package for me. I have been a runner for 40 years and have experienced the full range of emotions while running - but on my bike, it's been just HAPPINESS. Willow 7 is good vibes only for me! We will be in Brooklyn late October and look forward to visiting your shop to thank you in person!

X+1 is indeed the magic number Ourania. Thanks so much for taking the time to share such a thorough review. -Ryan Zagata

Love it!!!

For a few years I'd been wanting to get a Dutch-style bicycle and become a more confident cyclist, but I kept putting it off. Then the corona virus quarantine started, and I thought: the time is now! So I bought a Willow 3-speed as a 50th-birthday present for myself. This is the first bike that I feel truly comfortable riding as an adult. Because I'm only 5 feet tall, I got the S/M size, and with the seat lowered all the way the fit is perfect. I can mount and dismount with ease, as well as touch my foot down when stopped. The seat and handlebars are also comfy, with simple shifting. The frame is lightweight enough for me to lift and carry up/down stairs. This bike has been a godsend to me: for food shopping trips; for getting to/from my work office; for exercise while exploring my neighborhood. I added on a front basket and a friend gave me panniers, so I can transport stuff; plus I added on a bell, for safety. I love everything about this bicycle: the color, the style, the feeling of freedom it gives me. I am delighted with my Willow bici!

Thanks so much for sharing Lisa. We're thrilled that you're enjoying your Willow 3. -Ryan Zagata

I love my bike!

I was renting city bikes up until buying this one and so it was a noticeable difference. The ride is smooth and easy to stop or slow down. The Willow also has a bigger seat than the Franklin and leather handlebar grips, which I also love. This bike doesn’t quite keep up when I go riding with friends who have Road bikes or even Mountain bikes so I do think more like a Cruiser, but great for my use for leisurely rides around town.

Thanks for sharing your feedback and photo Mary. We're thrilled you're enjoying your bike. -Ryan Zagata

I love this bike!

I'd been researching/considering a bike for two years. With the Covid lockdown and resulting lack of cars on NYC streets, I decided it was time to pull the trigger. I ordered a Large Black Willow 7 (I'm 5'7") and boy am I glad I did. From start to finish the process was sooo easy...from my virtual showroom session with Ryan to my bike drop-off by his team a week later...it could have not have gone more smoothly.

This bike is as comfortable to ride as it is pretty. (At least one person comments on it every time I take it out. Seriously.) I've been exploring the city on the wknds, everywhere from the Upper West Side down to the tip of Manhattan. I love zipping around Central Park, down 5th Avenue, through the West Village, you name it. Even the climb back up the Manhattan "hill" is made easy in a low gear. I also ordered a Nantucket basket for the front and two weeks later ordered the Downtown Bike Lights. (Do yourself a favor and just get them when you order your bike.) The care with which this bike is crafted is evident in its quality and appearance. Overall, I could not be happier with my Brooklyn Bicycle, and am looking forward to using it for many years to come.

Thank you for sharing Jenny. We're glad our Willow has become a trusted companion. -Ryan Zagata

Great bike!

I ordered my blue Willow 7 online during the CoVid 19 Pandemic, after much research and comparisons with other brands. The ordering process was easy, the contacts with me were prompt and courteous, and my bike arrived in Albuquerque within the time promised. The local bike shop in Albuquerque did a great job delivering "Robin" to me in a safe way. The upright riding position has caused my back no pain (always a concern on bikes for me), the bike is gorgeous and has already received compliments from passing cars, and the ride is smooth and pleasant. Thank you so much for a great experience and product!

Thanks so much for sharing Kami. We are thrilled you're enjoying your Willow city bike. -Ryan Zagata

I’m looking for a step thru bike for myself. 5’ 8” 180# male. Is a willow 7 the right bike for me. Just want to ride around the neighborhood with the grandkids and not work to hard. 67 years old. What do you recommend?

Brooklyn Bicycle Co.

Hi there - the Willow 7 in size large would be a good fit for you based on what you shared. The step-through frame makes for easy mounting and the wide gearing range will allow for easy pedaling across nearly any terrain. -Ryan Zagata

Have Questions?
We Have Answers.

Get quick answers to your most common questions from sizing to accessorizing.

What sets the Willow 8 apart?

The Willow 8 is a beast of its own and features an internally geared 8-speed rear hub, hydraulic disc brakes, an aluminum frame, color-matched chainguard and fenders, and internal cable routing. It's a premium, all-weather commuter.

What is a step through bike?

A step-through bike has a low or no top tube, making it easy to mount and dismount. It’s great for comfort, casual riding, riding with no wardrobe restrictions, riding with tall cargo or children, and those with mobility concerns.

What is the difference between the Willow 8, Franklin 3, and Franklin 8?

Great question, and one we are asked often. The Willow 8 is a beast of its own and features an internally geared 8-speed rear hub, hydraulic disc brakes, an aluminum frame, and internal cable routing.

Additionally, you may have noticed that the Franklin 3 and the Franklin 8 are the same price-- this isn't a mistake! The Franklin 3 features a 3-speed internally geared rear hub (hello, super low-maintenance and ultra-durability), while the Franklin 8 features a 1x8 drivetrain with an external derailleur (hello, wider gearing range). There's a trade-off between the two, but the better choice will truly depend upon your use case. You can read more about the similarities and differences here.

Can I mount a child seat or trailer?

Absolutely! Step-through models are well suited for carrying cargo because they're so easy to mount without having to throw your leg over a top tube. This makes mounting a rear child seat a breeze. NOTE: We always recommend using the rear carrier from the child seat manufacturer as it will have been tested for load capacity.
