The Lorimer is Brooklyn Bicycle Co.'s sport-forward city bike for riders who want speed without sacrificing comfort. A 9-speed Shimano Altus drivetrain delivers the same wide gear range as the Roebling, paired with upright, relaxed handlebars that keep you comfortable on every ride. The lightweight steel frame is designed for responsive handling through tight city blocks and smooth cruising on open bike paths. Alloy linear-pull brakes give you confident control at higher speeds. Fender and rack mounts are included so you can set it up for daily commuting or strip it down for fast weekend rides. Puncture-resistant tires handle city debris without worry. The Lorimer is the right choice for riders who enjoy the feel of a road bike but need something practical enough to lock up outside the office every day.

A lightweight hybrid bike praised for urban commuting and trail riding. Customers said it's "incredibly light" with smooth gear shifting and puncture-resistant tires. Ideal for shorter riders with multiple frame sizes. Some noted stock hand grips and brake pads need upgrading, seat comfort varies, and sizing may run small. Exceptional customer service.

Half year review, a short distance commuter

Riding this bike since last September for commuting and errands. I was looking for a simple yet attractive-looking bike, something classic and low-profile. I commute with my bike about 4 miles on sunny days in north Texas. Although my commute pathway has some gentle slopes, none of them is challenging so 9-speed options feel more than enough. The puncture-resistance tire works well, I haven't faced a puncture yet. And I also like the reflective tape on the rim. Overall, I am satisfied but recommend two upgrades. First, the stock hand grip is not good. With that, I feel pressure in my palm only after taking 5~10 minutes. Second, rim brake pads. The stock pad leaves black residue all over the wheels, chains, and so on. Kool Stop pads have worked well without any residue. They are not that expensive and super easy to switch.

Thank you for your half-year review of our Lorimer bike. We're glad to hear that it's been a great companion for your short distance commutes and errands. We designed it to be simple yet attractive, with a classic and low-profile look. It sounds like it's been perfect for your sunny rides in Texas. We're happy to hear that the puncture-resistant tires have been working well for you. Thank you for your recommendations for upgrades. We will definitely take your feedback into consideration for future improvements. Happy riding! -Ryan Zagata

Love my Lorimer

One of my best purchases of all time. My Lorimer bicycle is a classic beauty. I’m just shy of 5’2 and the medium is a great fit for me. I’ve had other pretty bicycles before but the combination of simple yet thoughtful design, its light weight, and the ease of purchase make this one my favorite so far. Even after adding a rack and fenders, it’s still easy for me to carry and maneuver the bike. Though I’m more used to step throughs, after the first one or two rides I am now very comfortable mounting and dismounting it. The gears make the hills near my house surmountable, even for someone who’s not a seasoned cyclist. The only problem is now I’m obsessed with this company and I’m eying the blue or black Willow…

Thanks so much for sharing Sofiya. We are thrilled that you are enjoying your commuter bike. We've got a black Willow with your name on it. -Ryan Zagata

AMAZING

Just picked up my first Brooklyn Bicycle, the Lorimer, here in Vancouver today and I already took it out on the trails in Stanley Park and through the streets downtown. I was super impressed with it! It’s incredibly light and super comfortable to ride! I’m nearly 5’4 and I got the 16/M - it fits perfect! I was also incredibly happy with the service at the shop I bought it from on Robson Street - they were super to work with. Looking forward to riding this bicycle all year round!

Thanks so much for sharing Jasmine. You're lucky to have access to Stanley Park - it's one of our favorites. Enjoy. -Ryan Zagata

Wicked cool bike

I love this bike with all my heart. Every time I get on I smile. It rides so smooth, the gears are simple and clean and the colour is amazing. If this bike came out in a pastel mini egg yellow or lilac purple I would hands down buy another one.
I originally wanted the white, and was going to order a small or xs bike frame because I am 5’2. But I’m really glad I went in to the Brooklyn bike co dealer in my city (Joe Mammas Cycles in Ottawa) to look and try it out. The white was even more off white than I thought which wasn’t for me personally, and the mint green was just so much more beautiful in person. It turned out I was actually a M frame, and I am so grateful for the staff at Joe mammas cycles were there to help me out and get me on the road. This review might be two years to late but on the other hand I love it just as much as I did two years ago! It would be awesome to see more fun matte colours come out on some of your bikes, I get compliments on the daily on this beauty!

Thanks so much for sharing Julia. Nothing delights us more than hearing a customer is loving their bike after a few years and that it continues to deliver on its promise. -Ryan Zagata

Obsessed

I started thinking about getting a bike back in February then rented one from my local bike shop to get a feel for riding on NY streets. After the rental, I knew I wanted one of my own but had no clue which would be right for me. I did a bunch of research and kept coming back to Brooklyn Bicycle. By the time I was ready to make a decision, COVID happened and all of the shops closed to non-essential services. I requested a virtual chat late one night and Ryan hopped on a call with me the next day! He answered every question I had with patience and listened to my needs. I bought the Lorimer and I cannot stop riding it! On the rare occasion that I’m not riding, I’m thinking about the next time I can. It’s smooth, not super heavy and fits me perfectly which was difficult to find at 5 feet. I absolutely love it and cannot speak highly enough about Ryan and his team.

Thanks so much for sharing Tiffany. We're thrilled this bike has been a great companion for you. -Ryan Zagata

Lorimer - best investment ever!

Finally decided to pull the trigger and purchase my first bike...and it was everything I ever wanted and imagined! The ride is smooth and super comfy. I’m also not that tall..so the XS was perfect for my 5’ structure. Brooklyn Bicycle Co was very prompt in answering my questions and with the curbside delivery. I ordered my bike and got it assembled and delivered the next day! I was also able to switch out some accessories and had it put in during the assembly. Thanks Brooklyn Bike Co!

Love the customizations. Thanks for sharing Jenny. -Ryan Zagata

Perfect Commuter in San Francisco

I’m 5’6” with short legs and this bike gives me the power and control I need for both my daily commute and a leisurely stroll around the hilliest hills of San Francisco.

Swapped out the grips and seat to give it some extra w o w too 😎

Thanks for sharing Tony. We are thrilled you're tackling the hills of San Francisco with this bike. -Ryan Zagata

Love my new bike!

I got one for my commuting last month and I love it!!! I went the shop to pick my bike up and realized I totally missed to read about making reservation to visit the shop when I got there..oops,, I called to company numbers and Ryan came over to the shop right away(so sorry!!). He set bike up for me and it fits perfectly. I'm around 5'1" and I rarely could find a bike would fit to my height comfortably but this S size is a FIT. And from my work to my home, I need to go over hills in Central Parks which gear helps a lot. Design is so clean and neat too! I love my new bike. I strongly recommend it!! Sadly we all New Yorkers are in quarantine but hopefully it gets better and can go out for riding soon-Stay safe all

Thanks so much for sharing Joo. Glad you're enjoying your Lorimer! -Ryan Zagata

Great Bike :)

This is the first bike I've owned, and I'm really happy with it. I'm fairly short, so the smaller size feels much nicer to ride than most of the other bikes I've ridden. The matte blue finish is very pretty, and I've gotten a number of compliments. It's perfect for riding to/from work during the week and going on longer bike rides on the weekends. I really love my bike and looking forward to riding it for a long time :)

Thanks for sharing Kelly. The matte denim color is new for us so we're glad you're getting compliments. -Ryan Zagata

SUCH A SEAMLESS PROCESS.

I love my Brooklyn Bicycle just as much as I love the company and how responsive and wonderful they are. When i was unable to purchase the Franklin because it was out of stock in my color/size preference I opted for the Lorimer. I was helped by countless people to make sure it was the right fit for me. They had it put together at my local store and I just picked it up and rode off on my new bike!

I love how lightweight and compact this bike is. I was originally looking for the upright posture of the Franklin, but I have gotten used to the sportier position that is offered by the Lorimer. It has so many speeds and seemlessly switches between speeds when I’m riding.

I was really set on having the walnut handles and saddle so I ordered those seperately and they were put on when my bike was being built.

I do wish they kept the logo on the bike like you see in the pics! The bike says “BK LORIMER” instead of “BROOKLYN”on it. Silly, but I’d really rather it have the logo on it, so that was disappointing to realize when I got it.

I am thrilled with my purchase and already convincing my friends to buy from BBC.

THANK YOU!

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback and acknowledging the teams efforts Alexandra. We went through a branding refresh earlier in the year and there are still a few bikes out there with the prior branding but all else is the same. Enjoy! -Ryan Zagata

EXCELLENT customer service AND bicycle from Brooklyn! I live in Northern California and my bike was sent to a local bike shop 10 miles away exactly one week after I ordered. Shipping and assembly costs were taken care of by Brooklyn. The day I got the email that my bike was ready for me to pick up I could not wait to get off work and smash to pick it up on the way home. When I saw the bike shop guy bring my bike out from the back, it was like he was bringing out my newborn in a basinet for me to meet for the first time. Its such a fun bike to ride! Summer 2018 is gonna be a great one with this beaut. Looking forward to all my future adventures with this bike. THANK YOU

Thank you so much for acknowledging the team’s efforts Sheriane. We are thrilled you’re loving your Lorimer. -Ryan Zagata

It's perfect!

I absolutely love how fast and light this bike is compared to my old step through. It also doesn't hurt that it's a beautiful classic looking bike. The matte paint adds a beautiful touch - I've had tons of compliments on it already! It's the perfect commuting bike for me. Plus, the customer service through the whole process was amazing! Now I just need the snow to stop so I can get out riding more!

Thanks Heather! The Lorimer is looking great in the soft mint. So thrilled you are enjoying. -Ryan Zagata

Great bike!

It's my second bike. My first is a road bike. I use it for getting around the city. My girlfriend is sharing the Lorimer, re-learning to bike (yes, riding a bike isn't as easy as riding a bike). We both appreciate everything about it. Great frame, great design (7 gears with a very wide range, nice and simple). And it looks great, beautiful cream color, great typeface, and the Brooklyn Bridge on the head tube! I got Timbuck2 saddle bags. My Lorimer gets me around town faster than public transportation or taxis.

Thank you for sharing Richard. Glad we're your consummate companion. Thrilled to have you in the Brooklyn Bicycle Co. family. -Ryan Zagata

Have Questions?
We Have Answers.

Get quick answers to your most common questions from sizing to accessorizing.

What is a hybrid bike?

Hybrid bicycles blend characteristics from more specialized road bikes, touring bikes and mountain bikes. The resulting "hybrid" is a general-purpose bike that can tolerate a wide range of riding conditions and applications.

What is the difference between the Lorimer and the Roebling?

While similar in design to its sibling the Roebling, the Lorimer sets itself apart with a more compact cockpit and wider saddle. It's ideal for our more petite riders from 4'10 - 5'7".

What is chromoly steel?

Chromoly (short for chromium-molybdenum) is a premium, lighter grade of steel prized by cyclists. It retains steel's legendary durability and shock absorption while shedding unnecessary weight—giving you a smoother, lighter, and more responsive ride. Specifically, the Lorimer's chromoly is double-butted which means the tubing is thicker at the stress points (welds) and then tapers at the center of the tubes resulting in an even lighter bike.

Can I add fenders, a rack, etc. to my Lorimer?

Absolutely! The Lorimer has all the braze-ons (mounting points) you'd need to add things like fenders, a rear rack, a kickstand, a front basket, or a water bottle cage.
