HOW TO MEASURE YOUR INSEAM:

The MOST IMPORTANT measurement when sizing a bike is your inseam length. Don't base your inseam simply on your jean size. The more precise, the better.

1. Stand with your back against a wall and spread your feet 6"- 8" apart.

2. Place a book between your legs and up against the wall, spine up; raise it until snug against your crotch (this mimics your bike seat).

3. Have another person measure from the top of the book (spine) down to the floor.

4. We strongly encourage viewing this YouTube video on how to properly measure your inseam.

We recently purchased and received our new Franklin 8 along w/ the Bedford 8 bicycles and are extremely satisfied. Franklin 3-speed: frankly fun!

Four decades after I last rode a bike I decided to get back in the saddle, to help with the balance and strength issues associated with getting, ummmm, more mature. After lots of research, I chose the Franklin 3-speed. It not only came with all of the features I was looking for, but it's the most beautifully designed bike on the market. On my maiden voyage around the neighborhood, people yelled out "Nice bike!" I've never gotten so much attention!

The Franklin is a dream to ride; it's lightweight, the gears shift easily, and the handlebars are the perfect width and angle. I ordered the rear rack separately and installed it myself with ease.

My biggest concern was the logistics of having to pick up the bike at a local shop, but that process was flawless. The shop had the bike ready and waiting for me within a day of receiving it, and adjusted everything to fit me when I came to pick it up. I was out the door in minutes, and on the road.

What sets the Franklin 8 apart?

The Franklin 8 boasts a classic and timeless design, while making no sacrifice to performance or durability. With its widerange 8-speed drivetrain, color-matched fenders and chainguard, and upright riding position, it's clear to see why Business Insider awarded the Franklin the "Best Overall Commuter Bike."

What is a step through bike?

A step-through bike has a low or no top tube, making it easy to mount and dismount. It’s great for comfort, casual riding, riding with no wardrobe restrictions, riding with tall cargo or children, and those with mobility concerns.

What is the difference between the Franklin 8, Franklin 3, and Willow 7?

Great question, and one we are asked often. You may have noticed that the Franklin 3 and the Franklin 8 are the same price-- this isn't a mistake! The Franklin 3 features a 3-speed internally geared rear hub (hello, super low-maintenance and ultra-durability), while the Franklin 8 features a 1x8 drivetrain with an external derailleur (hello, wider gearing range). There's a trade-off between the two, but the better choice will truly depend upon your use case.

The Willow 7 is a premium super commuter featuring an aluminum frame, an internal 7-speed hub, and hydraulic disc brakes. You can read more about the similarities and differences here.

Can I mount a child seat or trailer?

Absolutely! Step-through models are well suited for carrying cargo because they're so easy to mount without having to throw your leg over a top tube. This makes mounting a rear child seat a breeze. NOTE: We always recommend using the rear carrier from the child seat manufacturer as it will have been tested for load capacity.
